Charging station activity in Oregon
Across Oregon, charging stations are popping up quickly. Thanks to a U.S. Department of Energy grant, more than 2,000 charging stations will be installed in homes and businesses throughout the state starting fall 2010. If you’re a business or individual interested in participating in the EV Project by installing a potentially free charging station, email PGE. Complete details on the grant and the states participating in it are available at The EV Project website.
In October 2010, the Oregon Department of Transportation also received a $2 million grant to install up to 24 “DC fast charge” stations throughout northwest Oregon by 2012. These stations typically charge an electric vehicle battery to 80 percent in 20 to 30 minutes, and will complement the network of Level 2 stations installed by the EV Project. A map (PDF) of possible locations indicates these stations will be located in small cities in the region and along major travel routes like US 26, I-84, US 20, OR 18, OR 99W and US 101.
Outside of the grant, charging station and vehicle manufacturers worldwide are interested in doing business in Oregon, because of our pioneering electric-vehicle infrastructure work so far. PGE and its partners are continually working to bring that activity here.
Businesses, municipalities and individuals can also work directly with electricians to install private or public charging stations. Contact us for more information.
