2008 Awards

Hope Award (October 2008)
Awarded by: Oregon Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society
PGE CEO and President Peggy Fowler was honored by the Oregon Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for her outstanding business and community leadership throughout the region with the prestigious Hope Award.

Spotlight Awards (October 2008)
Awarded by: Public Relations Society of America, Portland Chapter
PGE’s Public Policy team earned the top award, called the Best of Show Award, at the 2008 Public Relations Society of America Portland Chapter Spotlight Awards for the “I Do, Redo Contest,” held in conjunction with the 2008 Portland Rose Festival. Additional awards included a Spotlight in the Community Relations Campaign category for “Start! Heart Walk;” an Award of Excellence for “Creating a Green Community Online” entry in the website category for GreenPowerOregon.com; and an Award of Excellence in the Event & Observance category “The Road to Biglow Canyon.”

Corporate Philanthropy Awards (September 2008)
Awarded by: Portland Business Journal
The PGE Foundation’s signature program, Community 101, received an Innovation in Philanthropy award during the Portland Business Journal’s Sept. 25 Corporate Philanthropy Awards ceremony. PGE and the PGE Foundation also received a corporate philanthropy award for our No. 5 rank in the large-company category with combined cash contributions of $2,634,935 in 2007.

Oregon Ethics in Business Award (June 2008)
Awarded by: Samaritan Counseling Centers, Rotary Club of Portland, Portland Business Journal and Willamette University
CEO and President Peggy Fowler was recognized for her commitment to ethical business practices not only in the workplace, but also in the marketplace, the environment and the community.

Business Partner Leadership Award (April 2008)
Awarded by: Friends of Trees
Friends of Trees honored PGE with its first-ever Business Partner Leadership Award for the company’s long-term commitment to Friends of Trees.

Orchid Awards (April 2008)
Awarded by: Portland Business Journal
Carole Morse, president of the PGE Foundation, received an Orchid Award from the Portland Business Journal during the Women in Business Party and Expo at the Oregon Convention Center. She was honored for her commitment to the arts and diversity as well as her efforts to address poverty through early childhood education and affordable housing. Also named an Orchid winner was Maria Pope, a member of the PGE Board of Directors who is the vice president and chief financial officer of Mentor Graphics Corp.

Deschutes Watershed Improvement Award (March 2008)
Awarded by: Deschutes Club
PGE fish biologist Don Ratliff received the Deschutes Watershed Improvement Award from the Deschutes Club, a private club of landowners along the Deschutes River, in recognition of his commitment to the river and his work on restoring fish passage at Pelton Round Butte.

2008 Best Practices Award (March 2008)
Awarded by: Combined Cycle Journal
PGE’s Port Westward garnered the top honor in Combined Cycle Journal’s 2008 Best Practices Award design category for pioneering the implementation of digital communications technology at the plant.

2008 Aon Build America Award (March 2008)
Awarded by: Associated General Contractors of America
River Mill Dam project was recognized with one of the nation’s highest and most sought-after awards in the construction industry, a 2008 Aon Build America Award. Presented by the Associated General Contractors of America, the award went to the Natt McDougall Company for its role in the River Mill spillway and fish ladder renovation, an $18 million project designed to improve fish passage on the Clackamas River.

American Red Cross Wilderness Hero Award (March 2008)
Awarded by: American Red Cross
Employee Chris Lu was honored by the American Red Cross for his heroic action during a June 2007 incident that occurred at Timothy Lake. When two people were seriously injured while driving their ATVs, Lu jumped into action, notifying 9-1-1 and organizing triage and treatment for the victims, one of whom had a life-threatening injury. Lu was honored at the Red Cross’ Breakfast of Champions in March.

Gold Management Plus Award (March 2008)
Awarded by: National Association for Printing Leadership
PGE’s Print & Mail Services received a Gold Award in the Management Plus Program from the National Association for Printing Leadership, an organization that has a heritage of nearly 75 years of service to companies in the printing and graphic communications industry. One of only two gold winners nationwide, PGE was the only in-plant winner across all categories and the first in-plant to earn a Gold Award in five years.

Grand Engineering Excellence Award (January 2008)
Awarded by: American Council of Engineering Companies of Oregon
PGE and Cornforth Consultants were honored with a Grand Award during the American Council of Engineering Companies of Oregon’s Engineering Excellence Awards 2008 ceremony on Jan. 9 for their work on the removal of Marmot Dam.
